Reeperbahn Festival 2014

17.09.2014 – 20.09.2014

The Reeperbahn Festival is Germany’s largest club festival and is one of the three most important meeting places for the music and digital industries in Europe.

Under the heading ‘Talents, Trends & Trade’ the festival offers around 600 wide-ranging events in more than 70 venues on and around Hamburg’s Reeperbahn. Over 30,000 visits are expected to attend the ninth edition of the Reeperbahn Festival – and they can look forward to the most exciting newcomer bands and artists from around the world, an extensive arts programme, and a business platform and conference for companies and organisations.

This year's Finnish showcase artists are Jaakko Eino Kalevi, NEØV and Suvi.

The Reeperbahn Festival presents over 400 concerts featuring international newcomers performing indie, pop, rock, folk, singer-songwriter, electro, hip hop, soul, jazz, and contemporary. Concerts are held in clubs, bars, theatres, and other extraordinary venues on and around the Reeperbahn. The festival welcomes more than 3,000 media representatives and professionals  from 35 countries who are active in the music, media, games, mobile, IT design or marketing sectors. Attendees meet and exchange ideas at the music & digital sessions, networking events, meetings, award ceremonies, and parties.

Jaakko Eino Kalevi

Jaakko Eino Kalevi signed last year a record deal with Domino Records' subisidiary Weird World Records, making him the first Nordic artist to sign with the label. As a solo artist he makes pleasantly psychedelic pop songs full of hints from funk, disco, jazz, dub and new wave. He writes, performs and records them by himself, as can be heard on his first release for Weird World, the Dreamzone EP.

Two brothers Anssi and Samuli Neuvonen started making music together since early childhood, and after moving to the town of Kuopio, they formed the band Neufvoin, released a couple of sold-out ep’s, toured in Europe, went through some line-up changes and started a new life under the name NEØV.

NEØV’s debut album Orange Morning presented the bands characteristic sound palette: floating melodies and flowing rhythms mixed with layered guitars, dozy keyboards and horns. The band’s home town Kuopio is a city surrounded by lakes, with several parts of the town built on small islands. The influence of their surroundings can be heard in the band’s music: it’s expansive but quiet, grandiose but intimate.

Suvi burst on the scene in 2013 with her sublimely catchy and bittersweet debut ‘Bleeding For Your Love’, which garnered critical acclaim, reaching the Top 10 on the Hype Machine’s Most Popular Chart. Suvi has crafted an atmospheric, orchestral pop sound reminiscent of luminaries such as Peter Gabriel, Bjork and Woodkid. Critical to this process is her ongoing writing and production collaboration with Julius Duhs and Robin Svensk (a.k.a Bangs) whose previous credits include Miike Snow, Nervo and more.
