Britain’s most important contemporary music festival, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, will present two Finnish monodramas, Lelele composed by Lotta Wennäkoski and Nothing to Declare by Perttu Haapanen, on 18 November.

The two monodramas bring composers together with other rising artists. Lelele is created with visual artist Elina Brotherus, and Nothing to Declare is visualised by choreographer Tomi Paasonen. The two vocalists, soprano Pia Freund in Lelele and bass-baritone Nicholas Isherwood in Nothing to Declare will be joined on stage by the three versatile musicians of Plus Ensemble: accordionist Mikko Luoma, clarinettist Christoffer Sundqvist and cellist Erkki Lahesmaa.

The two monodramas were originally produced for Musica nova Helsinki festival in early 2011. Since then, the two works have been seen at European contemporary music festivals, including Berlin's MaerzMusik and Warsaw Autumn.
