A Finnish evening with Esa-Pekka Salonen in London
Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the music of his homeland in all-Finnish programme with Philharmonia Orchestra at Royal Festival Hall in London on 26th of June.
The evening starts with the UK premiere of Kaija Saariaho’s Maan Varjot. It’s a new work for organ and orchestra that was premiered on 28 May in Montreal, Canada, with Kent Nagano as conductor. Maan Varjot was jointly commissioned by Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre National de Lyon, Southbank Centre and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The programme includes also two pieces from Jean Sibelius: The Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 (1904) and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 43 (1902).
