Composer Jouni Kaipainen has passed away

We have sad news today: composer Jouni Kaipainen has passed away at the age of 58.

Born in 1956, Kaipainen was one of the most important contemporary composers of his generation, and his list of works is wide, including four symphonies, seven string quartets and ten concertos.  

Between 1975–1982 he studied in Sibelius Academy under Aulis Sallinen and Paavo Heininen. Kaipainen was one of the founding members of Korvat auki ry, an influential association and forum for emerging composers, and he was the Artistic Director of Helsinki Biennale in 1991–1993 and Avanti! Summer Sounds in 2004.
