Scotland’s largest music delegate industry event, Showcase Scotland at Celtic Connections, returns for its 20th anniversary in 2020. Next year, the partner country will be Finland.
Showcase Scotland will return for its 20th anniversary at Celtic Connections 2020, when musical directors and programmers of leading festivals and venues from around the world travel to Glasgow, to attend hundreds of concerts and a trade fair.
Each year, Celtic Connections partners with a country to create new international links and advance opportunities for their musicians. For 2020, Finland is the selected region and Celtic Connections will present both leading and emerging Finnish artists at the festival in association with Music Finland.
A host of leading and emerging Scottish artists will perform across the closing weekend of the festival. They will be joined at Showcase Scotland at Celtic Connections 2020 by Finnish musical stars.
“2020 will be the 20th anniversary of Showcase Scotland at Celtic Connections and it is fantastic that Finland will be our international partner as we reach this exciting milestone. The music of Finland will add vibrant threads to the weave of Celtic Connections 2020 and we look forward to exploring how our shared folk traditions and richly diverse communities can come together to create important new ties,” says Donald Shaw, Creative Producer for Celtic Connections.
The world-leading annual music festival Celtic Connections will begin on Thursday 16 January and will run until Sunday 2 February 2020. It will feature over 2000 artists from across the world in 300 events across 35 stages.
“The atmosphere at Celtic Connections is quite unique: the concert selection is huge and the halls are always full. Showcase Scotland attracts booking agents from British world music festivals, concert halls and professional events as well as media people. Every year the event gathers also more and more delegates from areas outside of the United Kingdom, such as Central Europe and the USA. Our partnership with Showcase Scotland offers great opportunities and visibility to Finnish folk and world music professionals,” says Henna Salo, Music Finland's Export Manager.
Showcase Scotland at Celtic Connections is produced by Active Events. The Finnish artists are presented through a partnership with the British Council and Creative Scotland.
