Finnish folk acts playing in Europe this spring
Kimmo Pohjonen and Minna Tervamäki’s Bright Shadow makes its German Premiere at Köln Philharmonie on April 12, followed by Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, Ludwigsburg on June 7. Bright Shadow features music and performance by Pohjonen with dance and choreography by Finland’s most well-known ballet dancer Tervamäki. The performance concept explores the merging of artists’ powerful opposing forces: Pohjonen’s intense and powerful energy with Tervamäki’s sensitivity.
The award-winning documentary film about Pohjonen, Soundbreaker, will premiere in German cinemas also in April. Information on German screenings can be found here.
Kardemimmit and folk singer-songwriter Jimmy Träskelin & Co will play at showcase festival Focus Wales 2014 on 23-26 April.
Tango orchestra Guardia Nueva will perform at Tango Gala in Berlin Filharmony on June 6. The vocalists at the Berlin concert are mezzosoprano Angelika Klas and singer Jonna Pirttijoki.
Juuri & Juuri, who recently won the Ethno Emma Award for their work Pelimannit / Hiljainen haltioituminen will play at Düsseldorf on April 7. Värttinä plays at Sargfabrik in Vienna, Austria on May 23.
Nordik Tree will play shows in Norway in early April and head for shows in USA in July (the US dates and venues will be announced later). The trio will play at Riksscenen in Oslo on April 3 and at Trad Session in Fredrikstad on April 5. Nordik Tree consists of Timo Alakotila (harmonium, piano) and Arto Järvelä (fiddle, octave mandolin) and Hans Kennemark.(fiddle, viola).
