Contemporary Finnish music will be heard in the summer festivals and other events both in Finland and abroad. A remarkable amount of new works will be premiered, including works by young and aspiring as well as established masters.

One of the most distant premieres will take place in the Republic of Korea on 27 June, as Tomi Räisänen's version B of Inside a Mechanical Clock is played at Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival by BerlinFinn Trio. The premiere is Räisänen's third within a month.

Lauri Supponen's choral work The Dordrecht Humaphone will be premiered at Cheltenham Music Festival on 5 July by BBC Singers and conductor David Hill. Another new work by Supponen, Fryd for clarinet and cello will be premiered on 29 August in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival has commissioned a new piano work from Magnus Lindberg, to be premiered at the festival on 26 July. On 28 July, Kaija Saariaho's new clarinet work Duft will be premiered as part of the International Clarinet Competition in Freiburg, Germany. Sebastian Fagerlund's Woodlands for solo bassoon will be premiered in Delft, the Netherlands, on 12 August.

In Finland, several festivals have commissioned new works. Hannu Pohjannoro's pyhän värit for organ will be premiered on 25 June in Parainen, and Osmo Tapio Räihälä's Aflao Highway for piano on 26 June in Mänttä. Time of Music festival at Viitasaari will have several premieres, by Sami Klemola (3 July), Minna Leinonen (4 July) and Juha T. Koskinen (6 July).

Kimito Island Music Festival will present Juho Miettinen's Kolme askelta (Three steps) on 10 July, and Crusell Week (21–28 July) in Uusikaupunki has commissioned altogether five short works from composers Veli-Matti Puumala, Juan Antonio Muro, Asko Hyvärinen, Minna Leinonen and Charles Neidich.

In August, Ekenäs Summer Concerts will present Johannes Piirto's work for piano and orchestra, and Oulunsalo Soi will present Juha T. Koskinen's Lamento di Lusia on 7 August. Sebastian Fagerlund's work for cello and piano will be premiered at Loviisa Sibelius Festival on 16 August. Also Helsinki Festival has programmed several new works, composed by Jukka Tiensuu (19 Aug), Pekka Jalkanen (24 Aug) and Uljas Pulkkis (1 Sep).
