Outi Tarkiainen is the Festival de Musique Classique d’Uzerche 2015 guest composer
Composer Outi Tarkiainen is the guest composer in Festival de Musique Classique d’Uzerche in France in August 14–17, 2015. Five of her chamber music works will be performed at the festival by clarinetist David Campell, string quartet Quatour Arod and Finnish soprano Sanna Heikkinen. The program of the festival will also include a world premiere of Tarkiainen’s work for solo accordion, commissioned by the festival. The work will be premiered by accordionist Vincent Lhermet.
Outi Tarkiainen (b. 1985) is a composer who is particularly interested in the human voice in all its complexity. Several of her works can trace their roots back to not only western music but also jazz tradition. Tarkiainen earned her master's degree in composition from Sibelius Academy in 2010. Her music has been heard in many festivals already, and in addition to the Nordic countries her works have been performed in several European countries as well as in the United States.
The Festival de Musique Classique d’Uzerche will be held for the 9th time this year, under a theme “Music without boundaries”. Finnish music will be well presented at the festival with not just by Outi Tarkiainen but by other Finnish composers too. The festival tributes the 150th anniversary of Jean Sibelius, and compositions by Leevi Madetoja and Selim Palmgren will also be performed.
