Rautavaara album gets Gramophone Award

Ondine's Einojuhani Rautavaara album (ODE 1178-2) gets this year's Gramophone Award in the category of contemporary music. The winning recording features Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor John Storgårds with the soloists Truls Mørk (cello) and Colin Currie (percussion).

The album includes Rautavaara's two latest concertos, Incantations for percussion and Towards the Horizon for cello. In addition, the CD presents an orchestral work Modificata (1957/2003), a fine example of the early Serialist composition techniques.

The Gramophone Award is one of the most valued prizes in the classical music record industry. Among the three nominees in the contemporary music category was also another release by Ondine with Kaija Saariaho's music.
