The Finnish Music Publishers Association awarded composers and songwriters

The Finnish Music Publishers Association gave four awards to Finnish songwriters and composers. Award categories consisted of Music Export Achievement of the Year, Classical Composer of the Year, Pop Music Composer of the Year and Song of the Year. The awards were given for the first time.

Pessi Levanto (Universal Music Publishing) was honored with Music Export Achievement of the Year award. The jury commented on the choice: ”Pessi Levanto had a major Asian release, a song on Korean act TVXQ’s (S.M. Entertainment) record, which sold over 200 000 copies and made it to no. 1 on the Korean chart. Levanto also produced Taiwanese act Joanna Wang’s record Midnight Cinema (Sony), which was made in Finland with Finnish studios and musicians.”

Kalevi Aho (Fennica Gehrman / Modus musiikki) was chosen as Classical Composer of the Year. The jury commented: ”Throughout his career Kalevi Aho’s works have been of astonishingly high quality. He has created his own way of expression.”

Pop Music Composer of the Year is Joonas Angeria (HMC Publishing / Warner Music Finland).

Erin Anttila’s Ei taida tietää tyttö (Kaiku Songs / Warner/Chappell Music) was chosen as Song of the Year.

The Finnish Music Publishers Association was founded in 1976 as an umbrella organisation for representing the interests of Finnish music publishers. The Association has 37 publisher members.
