Cádiz, Spain, will enjoy a week of Finnish music and dance in November. The festival, Semana de Finlandia en Cádiz, will feature five Finnish ensembles and music by Timo-Juhani Kyllönen, Lepistö & Lehti, Ketsurat and Lauri Toivio.
The opening on 6 November featured Timo-Juhani Kyllönen's trumpet concerto titled Cádiz 2012. Another work directly paying tribute to the city is Lauri Toivio's chamber opera Isabella, written to Maritza Núñez's libretto (in Spanish). Finnish folk music will be played by the famed duo Lepistö & Lehti and folk group Ketsurat. Finnish dance group Susanna Leinonen Company will perform on 10 November.
The festival is arranged by Instituto iberoamericano de Finlandia, based in Madrid, and the city of Cádiz, as part of their ongoing partnership. The fruitful collaboration has already brought other Finnish music events as well as Finnish photography, fashion and other arts to Cádiz.
