Wennäkoski recording receives prestigious Gramophone Award
The album "Sigla" containing compositions by Lotta Wennäkoski has won the Gramophone award for the contemporary music recording of the year. The compositions are performed by Radio Symphony Orchestra with chief conductor Nicholas Collon and harpist Sivan Magen.
"Sigla", released by Finnish record company Ondine , was awarded the "Best Contemporary Music Recording" in Gramophone magazine's awards on Wednesday October 4th. The album features Wennäkoski's orchestral works Flounce and Sedecim and the harp concerto Sigla. The recording was engineered by RSO's music producer Laura Heikinheimo.
"The notes written by the composer really come to life only in the hands of the performers. It has been inspiring to collaborate with Sivan Magen, Nicholas Collon and the Radio Symphony Orchestra. I'm really happy and proud that our joint album has now also been noticed in such a significant way, " commented Wennäkoski for Finnish Broadcasting Company.
For the first time, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra was also nominated in the "Orchestra of the Year" category. The board behind award winner choices includes Gramophone's critics as well as other major influencers in the music industry.
