Let the Music Play Games! brings together the music and gaming industries
Music Finland has partnered with a new EU project that aims to promote dialogue between the music and gaming industries across Europe. The Let the Music Play Games! project explores the intersections between these industries and aims to build long-term collaboration between music professionals and independent game developers.
In recent years, music and video games have become significantly closer. Although these art forms have inherent synergies, they often operate under different conditions and use different languages. Legal uncertainty, and lack of information and networking opportunities have made it difficult to create lasting and equal partnerships. Let the Music Play Games! aims to tackle these challenges by creating opportunities where music and game creators can meet, exchange ideas and build a common understanding.
The Let the Music Play Games! project creates connections between the worlds of music and video games and aims to increase collaboration between composers and game studios in different European countries. The project consists of research, professional training, legal guidance, and matchmaking programs.
The project, which is partly funded by the European Commission, is implemented by Music Finland, and major German gaming company Spielfabrique, as well as music industry organizations from Italy (Music Innovation Hub), France (Centre National de la Musique) and Austria (Music Information Center Austria – MICA).
The first phase of the three-year project will map current practices in game music and the industry’s expectations, for example through surveys and interviews. During the project, training and networking events will be organized in various partner countries and online. The first physical events are planned to be held in connection with this autumn’s Music x Media event in Tampere.
