Composer Matei Gheorghiu selected to Uuno Klami Competition final

Matei Gheorghiu, the Romanian-born composer based in Finland, is one of the finalists of the Uuno Klami Competition with his composition From the Village of Nowhere (piano concerto).

Held every five years, Uuno Klami Competition is one of the world's largest composition competitions in terms of participation. This year, over 200 compositions were submitted, of which five made it to the final. The other finalists are Yves Balmer from France/Switzerland, Jonathan Brigg from the UK, Dawid Grenda from Poland, and Roberto Sansuini from Italy with the following compositions.

The quality of the compositions was so high that the distinguished jury of internationally-renowned members – Lotta Wennäkoski, Kalevi Aho and Magnus Lindberg from Finland, Mats Larsson Gothe from Sweden, and conductor Ernest Martínez Izquierdo from Spain – compiled an additional recommendation list of noteworthy pieces.

The final will be held in Kotka and Kouvola, Finland in November with the Kymi Sinfonietta performing the selected compositions led by Ernest Martínez Izquierdo.
