Music Finland is the new publisher of FMQ

Finnish Music Quarterly (FMQ), the leading journal of Finnish music, is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. The new year has also brought changes to the journal’s administration: since the beginning of 2015, FMQ is published by Music Finland.

The long-term partners will continue to collaborate with the journal. The partners include the Copyright Society of Performing Artists and Phonogram Producers in Finland (GRAMEX) / Finnish Musicians Union, the Sibelius Academy and The Society of Finnish Composers. FMQ also receives a grant from the Finnish Ministry of Education.

The most visible change is the renewed publication schedule, putting new emphasis on the online presence of the magazine. There will be two voluminous printed issues in March and September, and a selection of new articles will be published online at www.fmq.fi in between. As a special jubilee gift, FMQ (will start) has started publishing a series of historical articles online. The first set of treasures from archives, presenting columns written by and interviews with Finnish composers and musicians, is already on the website.

About FMQ

The Finnish Music Quarterly (FMQ) has been a showcase in English for Finnish musical culture since 1985. It addresses all aspects of the Finnish music scene and keeps track of what is happening in Finland. Its theme issues have been devoted to various genres of Finnish music from classical to jazz, folk and popular music, and such topics as music education, the numerous Finnish summer festivals, and crossover between music and other arts.

Readers of the magazine will find information about Finnish music past, present and future in articles ranging from archaic poetry or medieval chant to the encounter of music with state-of-the-art technology. The magazine also carries news items and reviews of major new Finnish discs and books. The articles in the FMQ are written by experts on music both Finnish and foreign.
