Northern Connection continues to strengthen liaisons in contemporary music

The Northern Connection project continues to build networks in contemporary music as its second round kicks off this week at the Musica nova Helsinki festival.

This round introduces a new series of premieres, starting with a concert by the Finnish Earth Ears Ensemble at Musica nova Helsinki. The ensemble will perform a new piece commissioned by the project and composed by Norwegian Elias Nurmi Schomers.

Through the Northern Connection project, composers from the member countries have received new commissions, ensembles have expanded their repertoires, and festivals have benefited from fresh programming from neighboring nations.

In 2025, Iceland and Denmark will join the project, further strengthening collaboration within the network. Members will gather for the first time this round in Helsinki during Musica nova.

Northern Connection began in 2023 with Finland, Norway, and Scotland as partner countries. The initiative was launched by Music Finland and is led by the Nordic Music Export Offices.
